What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Pre Med Student, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Pre Med Student, you need a solid grounding in science and math coursework, strong academic performance, and a commitment to meeting prerequisite requirements for medical school. Familiarity with lab equipment, scientific software, and sometimes shadowing or clinical experience is advantageous. Time management, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help balance coursework, extracurriculars, and potentially employment. These skills and qualities are crucial for building a strong medical school application and preparing for the rigors of a healthcare career.

What is the difference between Part Time Pre Med Student vs Medical Scribe?

AspectPart Time Pre Med StudentMedical Scribe
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or current college student, no certification neededHigh school diploma or equivalent, on-the-job training provided
Work EnvironmentClassroom, labs, or study settings; flexible hoursHospitals, clinics; fast-paced medical settings
Industry UsagePre-med pathway, academic preparationMedical documentation, assisting healthcare providers

Part Time Pre Med Students focus on academic coursework and gaining foundational knowledge for medical school, often working flexible hours. Medical Scribes work directly in healthcare settings, documenting patient encounters to support medical teams. While both roles are relevant in the healthcare industry, they serve different purposes: one prepares for medical school, the other supports clinical workflows.

What is a part-time pre-med student?

A part-time pre-med student is someone who is taking the prerequisite courses for medical school on a part-time basis, rather than being enrolled full-time. This could be due to work, family obligations, or other commitments. Part-time pre-med students may take fewer classes each semester and often balance their studies with other responsibilities. While it may take longer to complete the required coursework, part-time study can offer flexibility and the ability to maintain a work-life balance while preparing for medical school.

How can part-time pre-med students effectively balance coursework, clinical experience, and personal commitments?

Part-time pre-med students often face the unique challenge of juggling academic requirements, gaining hands-on experience, and managing personal or work obligations. Effective time management is key—scheduling study blocks, leveraging campus resources, and proactively communicating with professors can help you stay on track. Many students find it helpful to join study groups and seek flexible clinical volunteer opportunities that fit their schedules. Balancing these demands not only develops important organizational skills but also prepares you for the rigorous nature of medical training.

The Role

We are looking for a Medical School Admissions Consultant! If you are currently in residency and passionate about mentorship, coaching, and helping students reach their full potential in the medical school admissions process, this could be the role for you. You'll work closely with pre-med and medical school applicants to track their progress, strengthen their applications, and guide them through every step of the med school admissions journey, including AMCAS and AACOMAS applications. This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contract role that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Work with prospective medical school candidates and pre-med students, helping them identify opportunities to build their profile and draft compelling medical school application materials
  • Manage relationships with applicants and families while providing strategic and tactical guidance on medical school selection, essays, resumes, letters of recommendation, interviews, and the overall medical school admissions process
  • Identify optimal medical programs and medical schools for individual students; provide feedback and guidance to students regarding their research on university programs and relevant admissions resources, ensuring alignment with the student's background and career goals
  • Support students with project planning, application timeline management, and progress tracking through internal organizational tools
  • Stay up to date on the medical school admissions landscape, including program requirements and admissions criteria, to advise prospective and existing clients on appropriate school selection and the nuances of applying to medical school
Qualifications
  • Currently in your residency program (MD or DO)
  • Graduated from a U.S. medical school
  • Previous experience on a medical school admissions committee, including reviewing applications and participating in acceptance and rejection decisions
  • A passion for mentorship and coaching pre-med students
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong English reading, writing, and editing skills, particularly for medical school essays and personal statements
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in project management and applicant tracking
  • Experience in education, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring students
