Job description

Job Summary:
Provides high-quality instruction while assessing participant needs and adapting techniques, projects, and demonstrations to meet participant needs to ensure accessibility, safety, and an engaging experience for all. The days of work and hours will vary with each class.
The salary range for this position is $15.76- $21.27 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will remain open until filled.
This is a part time position working less than 20 hours per week.

Essential Functions:
  • Instruct registered participants.
  • Develop and implement age appropriate lesson plan.
  • Perform assigned classroom duties related to the specified activity.
  • Pottery duties include firing and loading kiln.
  • Inspect environment and equipment to ensure safety.
  • Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as skill assessment of participants, attendance sheets, class evaluations, class descriptions for brochures and provide make-up sessions as required.

Other Job Functions:
  • May supervise volunteers assisting in the activity or program.
  • May assist with special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Course work or experience in ceramics, recreation, education or related field preferred.

Experience:
Required:
  • 1 year previous participation in and sound knowledge of the activity required.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office required.

Preferred:
  • Experience as a primary activity instructor in the specified program for similar age group.
  • Previous experience working with all age groups.

Certifications:
  • Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of hire date.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient knowledge of activity.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically. Strong customer service skills are required and necessary.
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy.
  • Must understand, learn and use adaptations, accommodations and physical assistance techniques required for individuals with disabilities as needed.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Competent organizational and planning skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Frequent light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
