Part Time Pm R Physician information

What is a part time PM&R physician?

A Part Time PM&R Physician, also known as a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor or physiatrist, is a medical doctor who specializes in helping patients recover from injuries, illnesses, or disabilities that affect movement and function. Working part time means they may have flexible hours or reduced schedules compared to full-time physicians, allowing them to balance work with other commitments. They focus on improving quality of life through non-surgical treatments, such as physical therapy, medications, and rehabilitation plans tailored to each patient.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time PM&R physician?

To thrive as a Part Time PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) Physician, you need a medical degree, completion of a PM&R residency, and board certification or eligibility. Familiarity with EMR systems, rehabilitation equipment, and diagnostic tools such as musculoskeletal ultrasound is common in this role. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and effective communication are vital for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting patient rehabilitation. These competencies ensure optimal patient outcomes, safe and efficient care, and cohesive teamwork in rehabilitation settings.

What are some common challenges faced by part time PM&R physicians, and how can these be managed effectively?

Part-time PM&R physicians often encounter challenges such as managing patient continuity and staying up-to-date with evolving rehabilitation protocols, given their limited hours. Balancing multiple job sites or coordinating care with full-time colleagues can also be demanding. To address these issues, clear communication with the interdisciplinary team, effective time management, and utilizing electronic health records for seamless updates are essential. Additionally, seeking mentorship and participating in ongoing professional development can help part-time physicians stay engaged and informed.

Job description

Description
Puzzle Healthcare is seeking a Physiatrist (PM&R) to serve as Medical Director, providing clinical oversight and leadership across our post-acute and long-term care network. This role blends remote medical direction with periodic on-site support for complex rehabilitation procedures, making it ideal for an experienced physiatrist who values both flexibility and hands-on clinical engagement.
As Medical Director, you will guide physiatric care standards, ensure documentation quality and compliance, and collaborate closely with facility teams to elevate rehabilitation outcomes. You will serve as the clinical authority for PM&R across assigned regions, shaping care delivery at scale.
What You'll Do
  • Provide clinical leadership as the physician-of-record for PM&R services across assigned facilities.
  • Conduct structured remote chart reviews, documentation oversight, and compliance audits.
  • Review and co-sign clinical encounters per state and payer requirements.
  • Establish and maintain physiatric care standards, documentation expectations, and clinical protocols.
  • Offer remote guidance and feedback to therapy teams, APPs, and facility leadership.
  • Identify trends in documentation, care quality, and training needs; lead targeted improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in regular virtual check-ins with clinical operations, compliance, and quality teams.
  • Support onboarding of new clinicians and facilities.
  • Stay current with PM&R guidelines, PDPM requirements, and post-acute regulatory updates.
  • Provide occasional on-site support for complex procedures, advanced assessments, or facility needs.
What You'll Gain
  • A flexible, remote-first position with meaningful opportunities for hands-on clinical involvement.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical and operational leaders.
  • A platform to shape care quality, documentation standards, and rehabilitation outcomes at scale.
  • Compensation: Compensation is structured as a percentage of collections plus a collaborative stipend. While earnings are variable, the final offer will be dependent on productivity and other lawful factors.

Required Skills
โ€ข Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
โ€ข Residency completion in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) required.
โ€ข Active state medical license(s) in good standing; multi-state licensure strongly preferred.
โ€ข Substantial clinical experience in PM&R, with deep familiarity with post-acute, SNF, and rehabilitation patient populations.
โ€ข Demonstrated leadership experience in a medical director, department chair, or equivalent clinical oversight role.
โ€ข Strong working knowledge of PDPM, rehabilitation coding, documentation compliance, and post-acute regulatory requirements.
โ€ข Excellent written and verbal communication skills suited to remote clinical leadership.
โ€ข High degree of professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to set standards across a distributed care network.
โ€ข Proficiency with EHR and clinical documentation systems.
