Job description

TITLE: Janitor
REPORTS TO: Children's Center Director
STATUS: Part-time, Hourly
SUMMARY: Responsible for performing all duties related to janitorial cleaning and maintenance of grounds related to the Children's Center campus. This position is intended to provide additional services during the school day to the normal cleaning that is provided by the outside janitorial company or the Plant Services department of Loma Linda Academy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain cleanliness of the property as needed to clean up spills, trash, or other debris that happens on the property.
  2. Apply disinfectant cleaners as needed during the day in areas of high use.
  3. Maintain the cleanliness of rest rooms throughout the day.
  4. Empty trash cans as needed during the school day.
  5. Clean and rake outdoor play areas with sand and remove any hazards.
  6. Assist with cleaning after special events.
  7. Restock cleaning supplies and janitorial supplies (e.g., paper towels, toilet paper, soap, gloves, cleaning liquids).
  8. Follow all health and safety procedures for cleaning and sanitation required of a licensed childcare facility.
  9. Communicate promptly with management and staff regarding any issues or concerns.
  10. Maintain confidentiality regarding our students, parents, and staff.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required, as well as:
Education and/or Experience
  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Prior janitorial experience in a school environment preferred.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to create routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and school administration.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Requirements
Ability to work independently and maintain confidences. Must be organized and detailed. Must possess skills in working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups. Must possess listening and communication skills. Must possess adaptability and creative responses to setbacks and obstacles. Must have personal management, and motivation to work toward goals. Group and interpersonal effectiveness, cooperativeness and teamwork, skills at negotiating disagreements. Regular attendance is an essential function. Must possess the ability to become competent in areas of responsibility. Be able to work a flexible schedule for occasional weekend events. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk long distances across campus; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to work indoors and outdoors.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be at a high noise level at times. Protective gear is required for eyes, ears, face, hands, and feet as needed for specific duties.
