As of Jun 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time pharmacist in Rio Rancho, NM is $54.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $50.53 and $60.72 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do part-time pharmacists typically balance their schedules and responsibilities across multiple worksites or shifts?

Part-time pharmacists often have flexible schedules, which can include working at various pharmacy locations or covering different shifts depending on staffing needs. This can present challenges in adjusting to different team dynamics, workflows, and patient populations. Successful part-time pharmacists stay organized, communicate proactively with supervisors, and remain adaptable to changing environments. They also prioritize ongoing education to stay current with pharmacy practices, ensuring they can provide consistent, high-quality care regardless of worksite.

What Does a Part-Time Pharmacist Do?

Part-time pharmacists have the same job duties as a full-time pharmacist; the primary difference is a part-timer typically works thirty hours or less. As a part-time pharmacist, you may be employed in community or hospital pharmacies, dispensing prescription medication, instructing patients on how to take them properly, and informing them of potential side effects. You are responsible for cross-referencing patient prescriptions to ensure there are no drug interactions or other impacts on existing conditions and recognize potential signs of drug abuse. Part-time pharmacists need to understand insurance coding and how to process claims for patients, and may also offer to administer immunizations. Some part-time pharmacists may pursue positions outside of pharmacies, such as teaching positions in pharmacy school programs, handling prescription medications in prisons, or doing research for pharmaceutical companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Pharmacist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Pharmacist, you need a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, state licensure, and a solid understanding of pharmacology and medication safety. Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, prescription processing software, and regulatory compliance tools is essential. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills help you effectively counsel patients and collaborate with healthcare teams. These skills ensure accurate medication dispensing, patient safety, and efficient service delivery in a dynamic pharmacy environment.

What are part time pharmacists?

Part time pharmacists are licensed pharmacy professionals who work fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, typically less than 35-40 hours per week. They perform the same duties as full-time pharmacists, such as dispensing medications, counseling patients, and collaborating with healthcare providers, but on a reduced schedule. Part time roles may offer flexibility for those balancing other commitments, such as family, education, or another job. These positions can be found in retail pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Requirements for part time pharmacists are generally the same as for full-time, including a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and a valid state license.
