Job description

Leads on- call staff at catered events. Oversees all elements of set-up and execution of event, including break down and clean up.
This is considered a part-time non-benefits eligible position. The wage is $25.75 per hour.

Requirements
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for exemplary leadership and supervision of on-call staff during specifically assigned roles at an event and at events at which Catering Coordinators or Managers are not present
  • Exercise the ability to delegate specific duties and tasks to on-call staff members while being organized, direct, firm, and thorough to ensure that the function room is set and food service is on track before guests arrive; all while maintaining knowledge of the flow and direction of the event.
  • Responsible for concluding each event with an end of day report that includes all necessary paperwork to catering management
  • Will be responsible for any cashless/credit card machine payment processes and alcohol inventory - ensuring proper licensing and signage is present during an event where alcohol is served
  • Uses effective communication when speaking with guests, fellow wait staff, the kitchen, or the managers
  • Knowledge of all the menu items is necessary for each function which means being able to identify and communicate potential allergens to guests
  • Must gain and maintain Vermont Department of Liquor Control (DLC) certification, and maintain Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance to support responsible credit card processing. Maintain Middlebury College drivers license (to operate van or Buggy or box truck) to support delivery of event products.

General Responsibilities:
  • Assumes responsibility for the care and upkeep of all Middlebury College catering and kitchen spaces and all equipment during catering functions.
  • Must have knowledge of the flow of a function and be able to adjust as necessary and on a moment's notice. Flexibility is required.
  • If an event takes place outside of Atwater Dining, it will likely be necessary to return to Atwater to continue cleanup activities.

Experience:
1-3 years experience on the Middlebury College DLC Certified On-Call Serving staff is strongly preferred but not required. 1-3 years experience in food & beverage service strongly preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs. frequently during the day and up to 50 lbs or more occasionally. Requires long periods of time standing as well as walking, bending, twisting and reaching. A high level of activity is required throughout the shift and must be maintained. Work shifts may occur during any time of the day, seven days per week on the Main Middlebury Campus or the Bread Loaf Campus. High School aged employees will be scheduled only during the appropriate legal work hours. College Students must be aware of their own academic demands when requesting shifts. Appropriate attire, grooming and adherence to professional standards is required. Punctuality is essential.
