Department Overview

This role will focus on Bariatrics, requiring the ability to assist with adult tube feeding needs. While a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential is preferred, it is not mandatory.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering dietary interventions, medical nutrition therapy, and preventive counseling to individuals and groups across various settings, including primary and specialty care, acute care, skilled nursing, outpatient services, and community environments. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing medical nutrition therapy services and overseeing the nutritional care of clients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.
  • Assessing nutritional status through comprehensive evaluations and creating individualized care plans.
  • Making provider order recommendations and implementing nutrition therapy, which includes verbal orders, diet modifications, nutrition support, and oral nutrition supplements.
  • Educating and counseling clients on disease management and nutrition risk mitigation.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy interventions.
  • Promoting self-management education for clients with chronic conditions.
  • Recognizing and addressing nutritional needs while considering cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs.
  • Leading the healthcare team in executing nutrition therapies and developing nutrition care protocols.
  • Staying updated on new trends and techniques to enhance care plans and educational materials.
  • Ensuring quality control and maintaining high standards for infection control.
  • Being aware of insurance coverage and reimbursement issues, and participating in clinical performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). *(Note: After January 1, 2024, a master’s degree will be required for those taking the registration exam to become a dietitian.)
  • Clinical nutrition experience through an approved coordinated undergraduate program or successful completion of a postgraduate internship is essential.
  • Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) license in the relevant state(s).
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
  • For certain states, individuals awaiting their CDR exam may be considered with proof of a temporary/limited permit nutritionist license, allowing two attempts within three months of employment.
