Job Responsibilities Nestled along the shores of its namesake lake in South Carolina's Piedmont region, Lake Greenwood State Park is a scenic destination offering a perfect blend of recreation, relaxation, and natural beauty. The park features over 900 acres of hardwood forests, gently rolling hills, and nearly a mile of shoreline along the 11,400-acre Lake Greenwood-making it a haven for boaters, anglers, campers, and nature lovers alike. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of activities, from fishing and kayaking to hiking and birdwatching.
The park's well-maintained trails guide visitors through quiet woodlands and along picturesque lakeside paths, offering views of native wildlife and seasonal wildflowers. Picnic shelters and playgrounds provide family-friendly spaces for gatherings and outdoor meals. Lake Greenwood State Park is also home to a popular campground with sites for both tents and RVs, many of which offer lake views and easy access to the water.Job Purpose and Duties: Under general supervision, assists with the overall operation and maintenance of a State park
Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies, and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in his absence. 1) Supervises and directs other full and part-time employees as directed by the Park Manager.
2) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures. 3) Manages specific operational activities including supervising specific areas such as retail sales, swimming areas, day-use areas, camping, other overnight accommodations, or special-use facilities. Enforces park rules, regulations, and policies within established limits and following department policy.
4) Assists with long and short-term maintenance planning and provides required reports. Makes frequent inspections to ensure satisfactory conditions. 5) Plans, directs, and may conduct maintenance activities on grounds, facilities, and equipment to ensure that they are maintained to the standards set forth by the Park Service.
6) Performs continuous public relations activities and educational and recreational activities as required. 7) Practice and promote teamwork within the work unit/office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
8) Employees will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety, and emergency response. Minimum and Additional Requirements Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Requirements: 1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights.
Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. 2) Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; ability to perform simple arithmetic computations. Ability to operate a variety of power tools.
3) Must possess a valid SC driver's license. Additional Comments Actual Job Location: Lake Greenwood State Park Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
