Position Purpose

At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Ambulatory Surgery Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides post-operative care for patients recovering from surgical procedures performed in the Ambulatory Operating Room and Main Operating Room.

What You Will Do

  • Provide high-acuity care for patients recovering from outpatient surgical procedures.

  • Manage Phase 1 and 2 recovery, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, stabilization, and readiness for discharge or transfer.

  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and care teams to deliver advanced interventions and uphold perioperative standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's degree in Nursing is required.

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut.

  • The ideal candidate will have one or more years of PACU experience supporting inpatient surgical recovery.

Preferred:

  • Candidates with ICU nurses with 2 or more years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate expertise in ICU-level ventilated patient care, critical drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives), and strong assessment skills. Note: Training is not available for candidates without this expertise

  • BLS/CPR certification (AHA or ARC)

  • ACLS and TNCC certification (support available post-hire)

  • Proficiency in ASPAN standards and guidelines

Position Highlights and Benefits

  • Part-Time - 24 hours/week - Day Shift

  • Monday thru Friday, no weekend or holiday commitment.

  • Variable Day shift rotations with ranging start times of 5:30 am, 6 am, 7 am, 8 am, or 9:00 am.

  • Shifts range from 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts, based on unit needs

  • Specialty pay is available exclusively to experienced nurses with one or more years of RN experience
