What is a Part Time PACU RN?

A Part Time PACU RN is a Registered Nurse who works in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on a part-time basis. These nurses are responsible for monitoring and caring for patients as they recover from anesthesia following surgery. Their duties include assessing vital signs, managing pain, providing education to patients and families, and responding to any complications that arise during the recovery process. Part-time PACU RNs typically have flexible schedules, working fewer hours than full-time staff, but must still maintain the same level of skill and certification.

What are the most common challenges faced by part-time PACU RNs, and how can they be managed?

Part-time PACU RNs often face challenges related to staying updated with unit protocols and maintaining continuity of care due to less frequent shifts. Additionally, adapting quickly to post-anesthesia patient needs and collaborating with multiple surgical teams can be demanding. To manage these challenges, regular communication with full-time staff, attending ongoing training sessions, and thorough handoff practices are essential. Being proactive in seeking updates and feedback also helps maintain high-quality patient care and smooth workflow integration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time PACU RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time PACU RN, you need a valid RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and experience with post-anesthesia care. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, patient monitoring equipment, and certifications like BLS and ACLS is typically required. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure safe, efficient recovery for post-surgical patients and support effective teamwork in a critical care environment.

Job description

Expert Anesthesiology. Smart Care. That's OAG. Since our formation in 1989, we have grown steadily to become one of the countryโ€™s largest physician owned anesthesia practices. OAG provides expert anesthesia services at a variety of hospitals, and surgical centers, throughout the Portland/Vancouver metro area. With over 200 employed physicians and CRNAs, OAG is uniquely positioned to provide a well-managed, growth environment for you to expand your career. โ€‹
We are seeking exceptional CRNAs to join our changing and growing anesthesiology practice. We are looking for CRNAs to work in the operating room and/or OB within an anesthesia care team model in a full-time, part-time, or per diem capacity. Specifically, we are seeking candidates for Legacy Health systems (Good Samaritan Medical Center, Salmon Creek Medical Center, Meridian Park Medical Center, Mt. Hood Medical Center). You will be hired into OAG, and while you will have a primary site, you will likely staff more than one hospital. You will need to obtain licensure in both Oregon and Washington.
This position requires strong clinical knowledge and skills, exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, and the highest level of professionalism. It requires that you work well within a small team environment.
We require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or other appropriate baccalaureate degree as well as graduation from an accredited graduate school of nurse anesthesia. You must possess a current CRNA license prior to any start date and have passed the national certification examination following graduation.
We offer excellent compensation ranging from $310K to $335K based on FTE. Our benefitโ€™s package is valued over $40,000 that includes: Health insurance, 10% 401k contribution, 7-weeks PTO, life/disability insurance, malpractice, and relocation bonus. Sign-on bonus $50,000.
To support our clinicians, OAG has a strong, centrally located Portland corporate office which handles billing, contracting, finance, accounting, compliance, marketing, IT, human resources and operations.
Portland boasts the ideal lifestyle just an hour west of the majestic Cascade Mountains and less than two hours east of the beautiful Pacific Ocean beaches.
Vancouver is a robust, growing city that outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy! Quick access to Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and never-ending recreational activities.
OAG is an equal opportunity employer supporting an inclusive culture that promotes and values diversity. OAG's mission is to be the independent practice of choice for excellence in anesthesia. We hire to these values: Excellence, Independence, Stewardship, Teamwork, Integrity, and Belonging. These are the values that drive us and make OAG a great place to work.
Begin your journey with OAG by submitting your CV and cover letter today.
