Deli Team Member (Front & Back of House)Position Summary
The Deli Team Member is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while supporting both front-of-house and back-of-house operations. This position prepares and serves fresh food, beverages, and deli items while maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe environment. Team members work together to ensure guests receive high-quality food, efficient service, and a welcoming experience every visit.
This is a cross-trained position that offers variety throughout each shift by assisting with customer service, food preparation, stocking, cleaning, and daily deli operations. Team members may perform additional duties as assigned by the Store Manager, Assistant Manager, or Shift Supervisor.
Key ResponsibilitiesFront of House
- Welcome every guest with a friendly, positive attitude and provide exceptional customer service.
- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, tea, fountain drinks, and other specialty beverages according to company recipes and standards.
- Assemble sandwiches, salads, wraps, and other deli menu items to order.
- Package food items for dine-in, takeout, and catering orders.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and process cash, credit card, and mobile payments accurately.
- Answer customer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, and daily specials.
- Maintain attractive food displays and ensure products are fresh and well-stocked.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally and refer complex issues to management.
Back of House
- Prepare ingredients including slicing meats and cheeses, washing and prepping produce, portioning ingredients, and assembling food items.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
- Receive, rotate, stock, and organize inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Assist with inventory counts and notify management when supplies are running low.
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in accordance with company policies and local health regulations.
- Clean and sanitize workstations, kitchen equipment, utensils, storage areas, dining areas, and restrooms.
- Assist with opening, closing, and end-of-day cleaning procedures.
- Properly store food products and monitor temperatures to maintain food quality and safety.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Work collaboratively with teammates to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and food handling guidelines.
- Assist with catering orders and special events as needed.
- Restock food, beverages, paper products, and supplies throughout each shift.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Previous deli, restaurant, cafรฉ, food service, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
- Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service skills with a positive and professional attitude.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and a strong team player.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and lift.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Comfortable working in both hot and cold environments, including walk-in coolers and kitchen areas.
- Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment, coffee equipment, slicers, and other food preparation equipment after proper training.
