Position: Housekeeper

Employment Status: Part Time, 3pm - 11pm


Summary/Objective:
The EVS Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital all patients, visitor, and staff, ensuring all areas are safe and clean. This role performs routine and specialized cleaning tasks in patient rooms, treatment areas, offices, public spaces, and support areas in accordance with infection control standards and regulatory requirements. 

Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.

  1. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
  2. Cleans, mops, washes, buffs, and vacuums floors
  3. Empties trash receptacles and wipes out bins before replacing bag.
  4. Maintains outside walk areas, including sweeping debris and washing walkways.
  5. Cleans and polishes fixtures.
  6. Cleans windows and doors.
  7. Dusts and vacuums furniture.
  8. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. 
  9. Washes blinds.
  10. Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas.  May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  11. Cleans and dusts baseboards, pictures, and signs.
  12. Cleans patient rooms using prescribed infection control methods.
  13. Transport soiled linen to laundry.
  14. Assist with laundry; washing, drying, folding, and delivering laundry to required departments
  15. Ability to drive hospital owned vehicle in order to transport linen, supplies, trash, and recycling materials to appropriate locations outside of hospital buildings.
  16. Cooperates with distribution of resources and helps to use and maintain resources within prescribed inventory levels.
  17. Keeps cleaning carts cleaned and appropriately stocked.
  18. Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures; including hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  19. Practices proper hand hygiene and adheres to safety regulations including OSHA, Safety Data Sheets use, and hazard communication.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, and some mechanical equipment.  The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements.  The noise level is moderate to quiet.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

This position is very active and requires standing, pulling, pushing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.  The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee will be required to wear PPE while completing certain tasks/job duties.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rotating shifts as well as holiday and weekend work during inclement weather will be required; working approximately 24 - 30 hours each week to maintain part-time status. 

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

    1. High School Diploma or GED required. Candidates who do not currently meet this requirement may be hired with the expectation that the diploma/GED must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date as a condition of continued employment.
    2. Must complete hospital required trainings within 90 days


    Preferred Eligibility Requirements:

    1. Health care industry experience.
    2. Knowledge of hospital-specific cleaning standards.
    3. Strong customer service and communication skills.
