Job description

About This Role

As a Med-Surg RN at NVRH, you'll provide comprehensive nursing care across our diverse patient population, including medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, swing bed, and pediatric patients. This dynamic role combines clinical excellence with the personal satisfaction that comes from working in a critical access hospital where every nurse makes a visible difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive patient care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for medical, surgical, pediatric, and swing bed patients across all age groups
  • Ensure clinical safety and excellence through accurate medication administration, IV therapy management, equipment operation, and adherence to evidence-based protocols
  • Educate patients and families by developing individualized teaching plans, coordinating discharge planning, and ensuring continuity of care through appropriate referrals
  • Collaborate and lead within the interdisciplinary team while mentoring new staff and contributing to unit improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved RN School of Nursing, BSN preferred. This can be an entry-level nursing position with no experience required (new graduate RNs are encouraged to apply).
  • Current Vermont or multi-state RN license required.
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Preferred certifications: Certification in Med/Surg Nursing, ACLS, and PALS required within 1 year of hire.
