JOB DESCRIPTION

SCHOOL NUTRITION SERVICES (SNS) ASSISTANT-PART TIME
Department: School Nutrition Services
Pay Grade: U102
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible semi skilled work includes preparing and serving meals and cleaning cafeterias; related work is done as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Preparing, cooking, and serving meats, bread, vegetables, and other food in accordance with the menu and standardized recipes;
  • Prepares and serves fruits, desserts, salads, soups, and other foods in accordance with the menu and standardized recipes;
  • Will be required to rotate through the full range of school nutrition services operation;
  • Washes pots, pans, kettles, and other cooking utensils;
  • Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens, and other food service and mechanical equipment;
  • Cleans work surfaces, eating, and food preparation areas;
  • Sweeps, mops, and performs other duties as assigned;
  • Assists in estimating and ordering food supplies in the School Nutrition Software application;
  • Receives deliveries and stocks food supplies and enters receiving into School Nutrition Software application;
  • Assists with maintaining sanitary conditions and HACCP logs in the kitchen in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Will serve as cashier;
  • Must be willing and available to fill in for the manager or lead worker in their absence. This would include opening and closing the SNS operation on an as-needed basis.
  • Must be willing to assist with inventory as needed;
  • Must be willing to perform end-of-day processes in the School Nutrition Software application, complete production records, develop daily employee work schedules, and prepare daily bank deposits.
  • Must be willing to assist with daily meal preparation and/or end of day process in School Nutrition application at other schools as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel to other school locations as needed.
  • Perform related tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school is preferred but not required.
  • Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for a position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving entrees, bread, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale;
  • General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment;
  • Skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and school staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects;
  • Work requires kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions;
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
  • Visual acuity is required use of measuring devices, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work;
  • The worker is subject to extreme heat, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
  • May require temporary assignments in multiple schools as needed.
