Job description

Paid, Year-Round, In-Person Engineering Internships -- Help Build Skyline, the First Fully Automated, Driverless Urban Light Metro in the U.S.

Why Join Us

  • Receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced engineers committed to supporting your growth and professional development.
  • Contribute to projects that make a lasting difference to the local community.
  • Enjoy year-round, part-time employment with a flexible schedule designed to fit around your classes and academic commitments.

Internship Overview

Make your mark on Hawaii's future with the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART). Join our engineering teams as an Engineering Intern and gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals in civil, mechanical, electrical, computer, or construction engineering.

You'll apply classroom knowledge to Honolulu's new, automated rail system, known as Skyline. It is the first fully driverless urban light metro system in the United States and represents the largest public infrastructure project in Hawaii's history.

This internship offers practical resume-building experience, professional mentorship, and the chance to develop teamwork and communication skills in a dynamic environment - technical skills employers value. Connect with mentors, expand your network, and lay the groundwork for a future career in engineering or public works, to help shape how people navigate the city of Honolulu for years to come.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with engineering tasks supporting the rail project, including data collection and analysis.
  • Organize and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings and supervised site visits.
  • Support team goals with additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as an engineering student, either undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Completion of at least one year of post-secondary coursework preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Schedule

  • Part-time (up to 19 hours per week) during the academic year.
  • Full- or part-time options available during the summer
