A DAY IN THE LIFE...

The Night Auditor plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the hotel's daily financial and operational performance. This position is responsible for reviving, balancing, and finalizing all hotel transactions while maintaining a seamless overnight guest experience.


As the Manager-On-Duty during the overnight shift, the night auditor is entrusted in handling problem resolution, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with all procedures and guidelines established by management. This role requires strong attention to details, a sound judgement, and a high level of accountability.



YOU OWN THIS IF YOU HAVE...

  • Review, audit, and reconcile all daily hotel activity across departments, ensuring transactions are accurate, complete, and properly recorded prior to closing the business day
  • Balance and verify all food and beverage operations, including cash and credit transactions, house charges, deposits, and internal postings, ensuring all outlets are accurately accounted for and reset for the following day
  • Audit and reconcile all Front Desk activity, including room revenue, adjustments, disputed charges deposits, and folio balances, ensuring billing accuracy and proper cash handling procedures are consistently followed
  • Prepare and finalize daily room revenue reporting, including statistics income journals, and performance data to support rooms and executive team visibility
  • Ensure all guest folios, billing arrangements, and payment methods are accurate, with particular attention to routing, third-party reservations, and package inclusions
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies across revenue streams, including rooms, valet/parking, and incidental charges, ensuring financial accuracy prior to audit roll
  • Monitor and enforce hotel policies related to cancellations, no-shows, and deposits to support revenue integrity and minimize loss
  • Complete the nightly audit process and generate required reports to support operational and financial decision-making.
  • Act as Manager on Duty overnight, handling guest concerns, service recovery, relocations, and sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and strong judgment
  • Respond to emergency situations calmly and effectively, coordinating with on-duty staff and following established safety procedures
  • Support Front Desk operations as needed, including guest arrivals, departures, and overnight requests to ensure a smooth guest experience
  • Partner closely with overnight Security to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, team members, and the property.
  • Oversee and verify completion of scheduled security patrols and building walks, ensuring all required rounds are completed, documented, and aligned with hotel standards
  • Maintain awareness of overall property activity overnight, proactively identifying and addressing any safety, security, or operational concerns
  • Maintain accurate and detailed pass-on communication, documenting all occurrences, outstanding issues, and follow-ups to ensure continuity between overnight and daytime team.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with guest requests during the overnight shift, including coordinating and placing wake-up calls as needed
  • Maintain accurate cash handling procedures, including balancing and securing the House Bank each shift
  • Support lobby operations when needed, including assisting with luggage or basic Bell services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall hotel operations and guest experience.

Education and Experience: High School diploma at a minimum. College degree preferred, or years of experience in this type of role. Accounting background a plus but not required; previous Front Desk Agent or Night Audit experience preferred; Medallion experience a plus but not required.



Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates strong proficiency in Opera PMS and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word

Comfortable operating standard office equipment, including computers, phones, copiers, and printers

Strong understanding of hotel operations, overnight processes, and guest service standards

Highly detail-oriented with the ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and take corrective action

Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, organization, and efficiency

Exercises sound judgment and professionalism in both guest interactions and operational decision-making

Self-directed and accountable, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Capable of compiling, reviewing, and analyzing financial data, including moderately complex calculations

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Maintains a professional, warm, and composed demeanor, even in high-pressure situations

Demonstrates strong guest relations and telephone etiquette


Schedule Requirement:

Overnight shifts required, flexible schedule, availability to work on weekends and/or holidays
