What is a part time new grad RN?

A Part Time New Grad RN is a registered nurse who has recently graduated from nursing school and is working part-time hours, typically less than 40 hours per week. These positions are designed to help new nurses gain hands-on experience while balancing their transition into the workforce. Part time roles can offer flexible schedules, making them a good fit for those who may have additional commitments or want to gradually ease into their nursing career. Employers often provide training and mentorship programs to support new graduates as they build their clinical skills and confidence.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities for a part time new grad RN in their first year?

As a Part Time New Grad RN, you can expect to handle core nursing duties such as patient assessments, medication administration, and documentation, often under the guidance of a preceptor or experienced nurse. Many hospitals offer structured residency or mentorship programs to help new graduates transition smoothly, providing ongoing training and feedback. Balancing part-time hours with learning can be challenging, but it also allows for gradual skill development and adjustment to the fast-paced healthcare environment. You'll frequently collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, gaining exposure to different specialties and building a foundation for future career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time new grad RN, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Part Time New Grad RN, you need a nursing degree, a valid RN license, and a solid grasp of clinical fundamentals such as patient assessment and basic care. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and standard hospital protocols is essential. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help new grads effectively collaborate with colleagues and respond to rapidly changing patient needs. These skills and qualifications enable new nurses to provide safe, high-quality care and smoothly transition into the healthcare workforce.

What is the difference between Part Time New Grad Rn vs Full Time Registered Nurse?

Part Time New Grad Rn roles are designed for recent graduates seeking flexible, entry-level nursing experience, often with fewer hours. Full Time Registered Nurse positions require more experience and offer consistent, full-time hours. Both roles involve patient care in similar settings but differ mainly in hours and experience level.

Why can't I find a job as a part time new grad RN?

Part time new grad RN positions are often limited because many healthcare facilities prioritize full-time roles for new graduates to ensure consistent patient care and training. Additionally, employers may require certification, such as a valid RN license, and relevant clinical experience, which can make part-time opportunities more competitive and less available for new graduates.

Job description

See your work in a new light.
At LUX Infusion, we're reimagining infusion care to be more human, supportive, and connected. Inspired by lux-meaning light - we guide patients, providers, and partners through complex therapies with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
As a clinician-led, U.S.-based organization, we put people first - helping patients feel seen and supported through faster therapy starts, dedicated care coordination, and meaningful collaboration. Our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and advancement (IDEA) is central to our culture, ensuring every team member feels valued and empowered to make a difference.
We're looking for a Per Diem Home Infusion Registered Nurse who wants their work to mean something - someone who brings clinical skill, compassion, and accountability to every patient interaction.
Why This Role Matters
This role plays an important part in helping LUX Infusion deliver a patient-first experience by providing safe, reliable infusion care in patients' homes and infusion suites.
In this role, you'll contribute to work that:
  • Helps patients feel supported, comfortable, and confident receiving infusion therapy outside of the hospital
  • Supports physicians, caregivers, and internal teams through clear communication and dependable care coordination
  • Ensures continuity and quality of care for patients managing complex therapies

Everything we do connects back to real people navigating complex healthcare journeys - and this role helps bring expert care directly to where patients are.
Role Details
Schedule & Location:
Lux Infusion is seeking a Part-Time Per Diem Infusion Nurse to see patients in their homes or infusion suites.
It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work in one of the metropolitan-area locations noted in the posting.
Work location is subject to change based on business needs.
What You'll Do
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide direct home and infusion-suite nursing care by inserting, monitoring, and removing IVs and administering prescribed medications, blood products, and nutrition
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, obtain vital signs, complete physical assessments and reviews of systems, and document all patient-related activities
  • Perform venipuncture and manage venous access, including peripheral IVs and central lines
  • Teach patients and caregivers how to safely perform and monitor home infusion therapy
  • Collaborate closely with company directors, nursing coordinators, directors of nursing, physicians, agencies, and internal teams
  • Coordinate start-of-care and ongoing nursing visits and confirm schedules with patients and nursing partners
  • Complete, review, and submit nursing notes, therapy administration reports, care plans, and progress documentation
  • Communicate patient status changes, concerns, or reportable events to referring physicians and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with clinical, regulatory, and company standards
  • Support staffing coordination while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Drive within the state to patient residences, infusion suites, and assigned care locations
  • Uphold compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and organizational policies
What We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you bring:
  • Deep care about patient outcomes and the infusion experience
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university
  • A current RN license in the state of practice and at least two years of RN experience
  • IV certification and experience with central line care and management
  • Strong medical-surgical, phlebotomy, and venous access knowledge
  • Confidence working independently while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent assessment, documentation, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Clear, compassionate communication with patients, caregivers, and providers
  • Comfort managing care in home or outpatient infusion environments
  • Willingness to travel locally to patient homes and infusion sites

Preferred (but not required):
  • Bachelor's degree
  • RN licensure in additional states
  • Prior experience in home infusion therapy
  • PICC, port, or midline experience and certification

You don't need to check every box - we care just as much about how you care for patients as what's on your resume.
Why LUX Infusion
At LUX Infusion, we believe infusion care deserves more light - more warmth, more clarity, and more connection.
Here, you'll find:
  • Purpose-driven, flexible per diem work with real patient impact
  • A patient-first, clinician-led culture grounded in empathy and excellence
  • Supportive leadership and collaborative care teams
  • The opportunity to grow your infusion expertise across diverse care settings

Come help us elevate infusion care - and see what's possible when care comes first.
