Job description

Instructional Designer
The UDOT Employee Development team is seeking a seasoned, driven Instructional Designer with a passion for designing and delivering technical training. In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for creating and implementing impactful learning experiences across various formats, including in-person and virtual instructor-led sessions (ILT/vILT), e-learning modules, and on-the-job training (OJT). Additionally, you will produce written guides and a range of instructional resources tailored to the needs of adult learners in a professional setting.
The Instructional Designer will conduct performance consultations, develop targeted training solutions, and ensure that all learning materials align with adult learning best practices and UDOT's organizational goals. This position requires a strong understanding of adult learning principles, proven instructional design methodologies, and proficiency with various authoring tools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify learning objectives and target audience characteristics.
  • Design and develop instructional materials, including e-learning courses, instructor-led training, job aids, and multimedia content.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather content and ensure accuracy.
  • Apply instructional design theories, practices, and methods to create effective learning solutions.
  • Develop assessments and evaluations to measure learning effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and quality standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in instructional design and learning technologies.
  • Provide guidance and support to trainers and facilitators on effective delivery methods.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in instructional design and e-learning development.
  • Proven experience designing and developing various types of learning content.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline.
  • Familiarity with different learning management systems (LMS) or learning experience platforms (LXP).
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and engaging learning content.
  • Proficiency in multimedia development tools (e.g., graphic design software, video editing software) is a plus.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Additional skillsets, such as writing, project management, graphic design, desktop publishing, or video/audio editing.
