Compensation Range: This role offers a $2000 stipend as compensation paid out over 6 months.

What You Will Be Doing:

Moody Bible Institute (MBI) is seeking a Christ-centered and servant-hearted Assistant Cross Country Coach to support the development and success of the men's and women's cross country programs. This position partners closely with the Head Cross Country Coach to foster a culture of athletic excellence, spiritual growth, academic achievement, and personal development while advancing the mission and values of Moody Athletics.

The ideal candidate is passionate about mentoring student-athletes, promoting a Christ-centered team culture, and helping athletes reach their full potential both on and off the course.

Essential Functions:

  • Model and represent Jesus Christ, Moody Bible Institute, and Moody Athletics with integrity and professionalism.
  • Assist in cultivating a Christ-centered team culture through discipleship, team devotionals, mentoring, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Support the development of student-athletes in their athletic, spiritual, academic, relational, and emotional growth.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting team practices, training sessions, and conditioning programs during both competitive and non-competitive seasons.
  • Maintain regular communication with student-athletes to encourage accountability, growth, and overall well-being.
  • Assist in recruiting prospective student-athletes who are interested in pursuing a Moody education and contributing to the cross-country program.
  • Help coordinate travel arrangements and preparations for competitions, including the potential operation of athletic vans or buses.
  • Stay current on best practices in endurance training, injury prevention, and athlete development.
  • Ensure compliance with all Moody Bible Institute and NCCAA policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Contribute to the overall vision and mission of Moody Athletics through collaboration, leadership, and service.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Basketball experience in coaching or playing.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and a responsible driving record.
  • Able and qualified to drive a 14-passenger bus.
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft, Google, and Social Media platforms.
  • Certified or becomes certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Able to work in the US legally, without sponsorship.
  • Physical ability to participate in basketball practice and physical training.
  • Enjoys working with college students.
  • Authorized to work in the US legally without sponsorship

Requirements:

Required
  • Experience in endurance running through coaching, training, or competition.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively mentor and develop college-aged student-athletes.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to meet qualifications for operating a 14-passenger vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Physical ability to actively participate in practices, conditioning sessions, and training activities.
Preferred
  • Two to three years of cross country or track and field coaching and/or competitive experience.
  • Knowledge of endurance training principles, nutrition, and injury prevention.
  • Ministry, discipleship, or mentoring experience.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and collaborative approach to coaching and leadership.

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Candidates must demonstrate alignment with Moody Bible Institute's mission, doctrinal beliefs, and Christian values. Employees are required to affirm Moody's Statement of Faith and adhere to Community Standards.
  • Primarily based within Moody Bible Institute's athletic facilities in Chicago.
  • Practices and conditioning activities occur both on campus and throughout the surrounding community, including Lincoln Park and the Solheim Center.
  • Regular interaction with student-athletes, athletic staff, athletic trainers, and coaching personnel.
  • Travel to competitions is required, including occasional overnight travel.
