Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development. 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and plan specifications for hydrology & hydraulic design for large projects. You will lead flood analysis, special studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts, interview clients, develop estimates, and participate in proposal preparation. Your technical expertise will contribute to project flood risk prevention and mitigation. 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Hydrology and Hydraulic engineering methods preparing flood analysis including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood risk and impact assessments, flood protection and mitigation, river training and diversion, riverine erosion and scour protection design, stormwater management and drainage design, sediment control design and associated permitting applications produced for the project for both permanent and temporary facilities as required​ 
  • Provides oversight of value engineering, constructability reviews, safety reviews, and O&M reviews​ 
  • Coordinates civil or structural engineering designs with hydrology and hydraulic assessments​ 
  • Conducts review of hydrology and hydraulic interpretative reports and works with geotechnical consultants to produce high quality co-coordinated submissions​ 
  • Develops plans and schedules and conducts and coordinates each phase of hydrologic and hydraulics design development for motorway, local roads, and interchanges and grading​ 
  • Oversees outside hydrology and hydraulic consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks​ 
  • Provides input to reports and may provide technical assistance to other hydrology and hydraulic personnel​ 
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements related to addressing issues as they arise during project execution​ 
  • Ensures the coordination of Hydrology and Hydraulic engineering work with civil and structural, geotechnical engineering, and other engineering disciplines to deliver well-integrated, efficient and safe designs 
  • Develop and review hydraulic and hydrological models using software, including TUFLOW.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and modellers, fostering technical development and continuous improvement within the team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of hydrology and hydraulic engineering principles, including flood modelling, drainage design, river engineering, erosion protection, and stormwater management.
  • Strong capability in planning, coordinating, and delivering complex hydraulic design packages for transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to integrate hydraulic assessments with civil, structural, and geotechnical designs to deliver safe, efficient, and constructible solutions.
  • Experience leading technical reviews, value engineering, constructability assessments, and consultant management.
  • Strong technical reporting, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills throughout project delivery.
