Job description

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a part-time Life Sciences Lab Assistant to participate in general wet lab activities and perform molecular studies related to cellular aging and cancer regulation, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), Katrin Chua, MD, PhD.

This is a part-time, 0-25 hours/week position, located in Palo Alto, CA.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with basic techniques in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, histology, cell culture, and microscopy.
  • Assist in working with mammalian cell culturing.
  • Help maintain common solutions and reagents.
  • Help maintain equipment and general lab organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year of undergraduate coursework towards a Biology concentration and /or AP Biology.
  • Applicable bench lab experience; 1+ year(s) of hands on wet lab experience in molecular and cell biology.
  • Previous experience or exposure to wet lab academic research environment preferred;
  • Previous experience with cell culture, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemical techniques;
  • General knowledge of research procedures or protocol gained through education and/or experience;
  • Ability to comply with proper research laboratory safety procedures and protocols;
  • Good interpersonal skills in working with PIs, researchers, and other lab staff;
  • Ability to use logic and analysis to identify the pros and cons of an experimental process;
  • Ability to read directions and follow procedures;
  • Excellent organizational skills.
