Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.Job Description
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate instructional technologies to maximize student success and multiple delivery methodologies such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
- Assessment - Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and learning and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Curriculum Development - Develop and continually revise curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation to successfully prepare graduates for their chosen career fields.
- Classroom Management - Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation. Ensure course materials (including textbooks) are available to students.
- Team Participation - Support the college by engaging in division, department and team activities, and meetings including planning, development, and budgeting, and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners by participating in advisory committees, external meetings, business visits, and community groups Collaborate with staff to recruit students, participate in recruitment events, and proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support - Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students reach their goals by collaborating with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful. Advise students regarding class schedules, career information, internships, and other program-related information.
- Professional Development - Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices, and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and the integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Completion of an Aesthetician program focused on Wisconsin state licensure; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years full-time (or 4,000 total hours if part-time) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught.
- One year (or 2,000 hours) shall be within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment.
- One year (or 2,000 hours) may be waived for occupational instructors with at least two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment.
- Current Wisconsin Aesthetician license is required.
- Medical spa or dermatology/medical aesthetics experience preferred.
- Experience with advanced treatments such as microneedling, laser therapies, or chemical peels preferred.
- Maintain accurate client treatment records and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Operate and maintain aesthetic equipment safely and effectively.
- Educate patients on skincare routines and post-treatment care.
- Instruct students in both theory and clinical application of medical aesthetic procedures, including:
- Chemical peels
- Laser hair removal
- Microneedling
- Dermaplaning
- IPL and laser skin rejuvenation
- Radiofrequency and ultrasound-based treatments
- Pre- and post-operative skincare
- Ensure safe use and maintenance of medical devices and treatment equipment.
- Promote best practices in infection control, patient confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender and disability.
- Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Work will be completed in a hybrid environment (in person, virtually, and/or online) depending on the mode of delivery for the assigned course(s).
- Work is typically performed in a classroom.
- Work will be completed in an industry specific environment with machines, technology, and equipment.
- Flexibility: the role requires flexibility and mobility to demonstrate aesthetic techniques.
- Lifting and Carrying: The role requires occasional/continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (of up to 25 pounds).
- Travel:Instructor position may require off-site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.
- Sitting: This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.
- Mobility: While much of the work is desk-based, occasional mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace.
- Fine Motor Skills: This role may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers.
