Job description

Sylvan Learning - Upper Level Math Instructor (Part-time) 

Sylvan Learning is the industry leader in providing supplemental education to children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

As an Instructor at Sylvan, your focus will be solely on teaching. There are no lesson plans or preparation as everything is already prepared for you! 

We are currently looking for upper level math teachers to provide provide personalized instruction in Math from Algebra to Calculus and SAT/ACT prep. As a part-time Sylvan Instructor, you will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in small groups as each student has a unique learning plan. Evening and weekend hours available. If you aspire to inspire, then we want you on our team.

As a successful teacher you will:

  • Teach 3-4 students an hour using Sylvan based programs
  • Supervise, interact with, and motivate students during instruction hour while they work with equipment and materials
  • Reward students for completed assignments
  • Evaluate and document student progress
  • Communicate student needs to the Center Director and Director of Education
  • Develop rapport with students and establish a fun learning environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan

**Bonus Opportunity: Explore the role of a Travel Tutor position with additional incentives. Travel Tutors should possess reliable transportation (carpool options may be available) and a willingness to conduct on-campus instruction at local schools, maintaining a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1.

Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with teaching or tutoring in the areas of calculus, algebra 1 & 2, geometry and trigonometry
  • 2 years teaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Certified teachers preferred
