THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY
POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Elementary Academic and Behavior Interventionist DEPARTMENT: Elementary
DATE: May 28, 2021 FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Year: Academic Calendar
Annual Salary: $12,615.70-$14,220 (adjusted for part-time FTE 0.25)*
*This position is part-time (.25 FTE, 10 hours/week) for the 2026-2027 school year. Start date is September 8, 2026
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The elementary academic and behavior interventionist implements a school program which encourages a positive learning environment and supports The Classical Academy's mission statement and Core values. The interventionist will assist students in their academic progress while providing a range of social, emotional, and behavioral interventions as needed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Principal.
The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Works with peers and administration to engage in relational learning and accomplish the following:
  • Supports students' academic preparedness by implementing curriculum and adapting instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of students.
  • Assists classroom teachers and Student Support Services staff in carrying out instructional programs and lessons.
  • Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers and other school staff as needed.
  • Observes students in the classroom, upon teacher's request.
  • Intentionally and actively builds relationships with staff & students across departments.
  • Assists classroom teachers in the analysis of student performance and needs and collaborates in planning ongoing instructional strategies.
  • Works with students in one-on-one and/or small group situations to reinforce curriculum, remediation of academic skill deficits, and social, emotional, and behavior strategies.
  • Develops appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral supports according to the needs of the student and assists the classroom teacher in their implementation.
  • Models and instructs virtuous character traits and promotes growth in wisdom, virtue, and compassion in self and students.
  • Supports curriculum and teacher-developed lesson plans in line with The Classical Academy philosophy.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and in-services as required.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists related professionals as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in a school setting working directly with students

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must meet TCA requirements for highly qualified elementary teacher
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience
  • Specific training and/or experience in providing academic and behavioral student support

SCOPE OF INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
  • Requires contact with students, parents, volunteers, tutors, support staff, peers, and supervisors
  • Contacts are generally of a nature requiring disseminating and discussing routine information, but may occasionally involve sensitive issues or situations

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally performed in a classroom setting with occasional supervision duties such as carpool line, special activities, playground, or lunchroom
  • Sometimes works in inclement weather
  • Work normal school hours and other times as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. They are included for informational purposes and are not all inclusive.
  • Stoops, kneels, crouches, bends, reaches, and balances while working or helping students
  • Spends some time sitting but the majority of time standing and walking while performing job duties
  • Oral, visual, and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently.

BENEFITS: 0.1 to 0.49 FTE:
  • RETIREMENT PLAN: Administered by Colorado PERA, this is a tax deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. TCA contributes 20.9% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
  • TIME OFF COMPENSATION: An employee with 0.1-0.49 FTE will receive 1.0 Staff Leave. For positions less than 1.0 FTE, leave time will be prorated based on FTE. Our leave program is fully compliant with the Colorado Healthy Families Workplace Act.
  • PRIORITY ENROLLMENT STATUS: Children of staff members 0.4 FTE and above receive priority enrollment of their child/children at The Classical Academy.
