Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools (www.freedomprep.org) is a network of PreK-12 free public charter schools serving students in Memphis, TN, and Birmingham, AL. Our mission is to prepare all students in grades PreK-12 to excel in college and in life. Since our founding in 2009, we have grown from a class of 96 sixth grade students to now serving over 1950 students across multiple campuses. POSITION OVERVIEW
ย 
The FPA Custodian is responsible for maintaining our schools' and network offices' overall cleanliness and functionality. Under the supervision of the Lead Operations member or Head of School, this person maintains their assigned building, or group of buildings, including keeping the office space clean, orderly, and secure during assigned shifts; and other related duties as required.ย 
ย 
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSย ย 
  • Cleans restrooms, dressing rooms, shower rooms, classrooms, and common areas.ย 
  • Stocks toilet and sanitary supplies.ย 
  • Vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors.ย 
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.ย 
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles.ย 
  • Washes windows and walls.ย 
  • Polishes metal work; and takes care of equipment and materials.ย 
  • Set up and prepare rooms for special events and needs.ย 
  • Reports needed repair work to proper authorities.ย 
  • Performs minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment.ย 
  • Waxes and refinishes floors and shampoos the carpets.ย 
  • Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings.ย 
  • May be required to perform miscellaneous maintenance work such as touch-up painting.
  • Assure security of buildings and grounds during assigned times.ย 
  • Moves and/or re-arranges furniture, chairs, desks, tables, etc.ย 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.ย ย

QUALIFICATIONSย 
  • Education - High school diploma or equivalent experienceย 
  • One year of work in the custodial field or similar work experienceย 
  • Licenses and Other Requirements DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearanceย 
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance consistent with the expectations for the positionย ย 
ย 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESย 
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including cleaning chalk and whiteboards, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures.ย 
  • Proper methods, techniques, materials, disinfectants, tools, and equipment used in modern custodial work.ย Safety best practices and work methods.ย 
  • Proper lifting techniques.ย 
  • Requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.ย 
  • Oral and written communication skills.ย Health and safety regulations.ย Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.ย 
  • Maintain an assigned school site, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner during an assigned shift.ย 
  • Maintain routine records such as work orders, equipment repairs and maintenance, chemical application, cleaning schedules, and overtime assignments.ย 
  • Use common cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.ย 
  • Learn custodial procedures, methods, and schedules.ย 
  • Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.ย 
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order.ย 
  • Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet cleaners, vacuum cleaner, and other small power and hand tools.ย 
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
  • Perform minor repairs.ย Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.ย 
  • Meet schedules and timelines.ย 
  • Work cooperatively with others.ย
