Job description

STUDENT AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM
POSITION: Academic Mentor (Part-Time)
Description of Duties:
Provide individual and/or small group tutoring to participants of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Keep regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions. Participate in outreach activities and attend tutor-training sessions. Supervise SSS program participants in computer lab. Assist with additional duties as needed such as preparing marketing material, filing and other clerical duties. Hours will vary, Monday through Friday. This is a part-time hourly position with variable work hours not to exceed 20 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated subject competency at the college level. Understanding of principles of tutoring and mentoring in order to provide SSS program participants with academic assistance, guidance and support. Proficiency with computers in order to effectively perform the duties of the position. Effective communication skills to successfully interact with participants of varying skill levels and backgrounds. Preference given to candidates with Math or Science backgrounds and those with tutoring experience.

Advanced standing ("A") in chosen subjects
