Job description


SUMMARY
Works directly with students, providing academic tutorial assistance in support of the material taught in grade 6 and/or grade 7 and/or grade 8 mathematics and/or literacy (reading/writing) classes. Needs to become familiar with Tutor.com to further assist students. Training will be provided. Gear Up Tutor-Mentors need to have transportation to their assigned middle school(s). The hourly rate is up to $20/hour, inclusive of transportation costs. No additional payment will be made for mileage. Locations include:
Clearview Local Schools:
Durling Middle School - 100 N Ridge Rd., Lorain, OH
Lorain City Schools:
Longfellow Middle School - 305 Louisiana Ave., Lorain, OH
Southview Middle School -- 2321 Fairless Dr., Lorain, OH
General Johnnie Wilson Middle School - 2700 Washington Ave., Lorain, OH
Oberlin City Schools:
Langston Middle School -- 150 N Pleasant St., Oberlin, OH
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supports the goal of providing middle school students with supplemental academic support by:
  • Providing one-to-one and/or small-group tutoring
  • Completing all necessary records and paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Assisting with the development and use of instructional materials
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The work is performed in a normal school environment.
The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
Typically, the tutor may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job. There may be some
walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.
It will require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and from the work site.
Special Note: This position is 100% grant funded.
If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
College-level coursework sufficient to provide tutoring for middle school students in mathematics and/or literacy, including reading and writing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Knowledge and competence in reading, writing, and verbal concepts
Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
