Under the supervision of the Dean of Manufacturing, Construction & Transportation, this instructor develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • Must have completed a registered apprenticeship in the Electricity Trade
Required Occupational Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent (14,000 hours) occupational experience in the electricity trade as an apprentice or journey level electrician in construction and/or industrial maintenance, or a combination of both. Up to two (2) years of occupational experience in commercial or industrial electrical system design can be counted toward occupational experience.
In addition to the above, at least ONE of the following must be met:
  • Three (3) years of occupational work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years; OR
  • Two (2) years of teaching Electricity course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years (1 year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time of four (4) semesters part-time).
Required Industry or Vendor Certification:
  • Apprenticeship certificate from Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards or equivalent.
Required Licensure:
  • Must have a current license as a Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician from the State of Wisconsin.
Preferred Certifications: in additional to all of the above:
  • OSHA 30 (Trainer Courses 500/510) Certification

Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the fall 2025 semester (approximately mid-August).
Hours: This position is up to a .5 FTE; the number of hours worked per week will vary. Course load and hours worked are based on enrollment and departmental need. Daytime and/or an evening hours of availability.
Modality: IN PERSON at our Milwaukee Downtown or an offsite location
Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.
Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.

Employee Benefits at a Glance - PART-TIME FACULTY/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT- Part-time employees pay a higher percentage of the premium than full-time employees.
HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:
1- UMR High Level PPO
2- UMR Low Level PPO
Note: All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.
DENTAL INSURANCE: MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.
Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.
GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is $15,000. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.
RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.9%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.9% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.
SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave is earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours.
VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation is earned based on the length of service and hours worked each pay period. (Not available for Instructors)
