Job description

Salary: $25/hour

S. Clyde Weaver is hiring a part-time Maintenance and Facilities Manager in our Lancaster County Farmer's Market location in Wayne, PA! This position is 20-25 hours per week.


The Lancaster County Farmer's Market Maintenance and Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily upkeep, cleanliness and safety of the Lancaster County Farmers Market property. This part-time position plays a key role in maintaining a welcoming, clean, and well-organized environment for customers, vendors, staff, and visitors. This position will oversee custodial duties, routine and preventative maintenance, and will provide prompt responses to facility-related issues, including bathrooms, plumbing concerns, cleaning needs, repairs, and general property maintenance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Oversee the overall cleanliness, appearance, and maintenance of the farmers market facility, including indoor and outdoor areas, vendor spaces, walkways, restrooms, common areas, storage areas, and grounds.
  • Ensure bathrooms are clean, stocked, functional, and properly maintained throughout operating hours.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues, including plumbing problems, leaks, clogged drains, fixture repairs, lighting issues, minor electrical concerns, and general facility repairs.
  • Perform routine inspections of the property to identify safety hazards, repair needs, cleanliness concerns, and areas requiring improvement.
  • Develop and maintain cleaning schedules, preventive maintenance routines, and daily opening and closing checklists.
  • Manage custodial tasks, including trash removal, sweeping, mopping, restroom sanitation, supply restocking, spill cleanup, and general market cleaning.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors, service providers, and vendors for specialized repairs or maintenance needs when required.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, paper products, tools, maintenance materials, and other facility-related supplies; reorder items as needed.
  • Assist with setup, teardown, and logistical needs for market days, seasonal events, vendor activities, and special programming.
  • Monitor vendor compliance with market rules related to cleanliness, setup, breakdown, waste disposal, safety, and use of assigned spaces.
  • Perform scheduled deep cleaning projects as needed.
  • Report major repair needs, safety concerns, and incidents to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Support a safe environment by following and enforcing applicable health, sanitation, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance requests, completed repairs, supply purchases, vendor concerns, inspections, and recurring facility issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful operation of the farmers market.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, custodial services, property management, building operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, cleaning procedures, minor repairs, building systems, tools, and maintenance best practices.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating vendors, contractors, staff, or market participants is helpful.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy public-facing environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work respectfully with vendors, customers, staff, and leadership.
  • Ability to identify problems, respond quickly, and use sound judgment when handling maintenance, safety, or vendor concerns.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, hands-on, and willing to take initiative without close supervision.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced market environment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, kneel, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies, equipment, trash containers, tables, signage, and other market-related items, typically up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely use common cleaning equipment, hand tools, and basic maintenance supplies.
  • Ability to work in public areas while maintaining awareness of customer and vendor safety.

PREFERRED SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of restroom maintenance, sanitation standards, waste management, and public facility cleaning.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for plumbing, lighting, fixtures, doors, locks, drains, and general repairs.
  • Experience working in a farmers market, retail market, food-related environment, event venue, public facility, or similar setting.
  • Ability to coordinate with vendors and contractors while keeping leadership informed of progress, costs, and concerns.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures, incident reporting, and preventive maintenance practices.


SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a part-time position. The schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and market/event days as needed. Flexibility is important during peak market seasons, special events, and urgent maintenance situations.
