The **Machine Shop Assistant **will support daily operations within our machine shop, working alongside experienced machinists to assist with setups, tooling preparation, and part handling. This hands-on role requires attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a safety-first mindset while working around large parts and heavy equipment.
Responsibilities:
•Assist machinists with the setup of very large workpieces for machining operations
•Support CNC machining processes by gathering and managing tooling and providing assistance during part setups
•Manage tooling inventory and prepare tooling for upcoming machining operations
•Rig and safely move large parts using overhead cranes and rigging equipment throughout the shop
•Hone bore diameters to specification using shop equipment
•Perform basic machining operations, including: Reaming holes, Tapping and chasing threads by hand, and grinding and deburring parts after machining
•Operate various shop equipment and tools
•Use precision measuring tools such as ID/OD micrometers and dial indicators
•Read and interpret machining drawings, understanding tolerances and dimensions
•Dump chip hoppers and maintain a clean, organized work area
Qualifications:
•1-2 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
•Willing to submit to drug and background screening
•Basic familiarity with machine shop tooling, equipment, and terminology
•Comfortable working around large parts, overhead cranes, and heavy machinery
•Ability to read and interpret basic machining drawings
•Experience with deburring, tapping, and using hand tools in a shop setting
•Willingness to learn and safely operate shop machinery (training provided)
Preferred:
•Prior rigging experience
•Familiarity with precision measuring tools (micrometers, indicators)
•Previous experience assisting with large part machining or CNC setups
