What is a part time LPN?

Part-time Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are healthcare professionals who provide basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians, but work fewer hours than full-time staff. They may assist with tasks such as monitoring patient health, administering medications, and helping with daily living activities. Part-time positions can offer flexibility for those balancing other commitments, such as school or family, but may not always include full benefits. LPNs can work in various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home healthcare. Requirements typically include completing an accredited LPN program and passing the NCLEX-PN exam.

While your hours may be fewer than full-time staff, you are still expected to stay updated on patient care plans, attend necessary team meetings, and communicate effectively across shifts. One challenge can be ensuring continuity of care and staying informed about patient updates, so proactive communication and thorough handoffs are essential. Many facilities offer flexible scheduling and opportunities for part-time LPNs to transition to full-time roles as needs and personal circumstances evolve.
