Inclusive Services at BPL provides unique programs for children and teens with and without disabilities. Hospital Storytelling is Inclusive Services' outreach program where we read to children at clinics and hospitals throughout Brooklyn, give them free books, and direct them back to the library.

The PT Inclusive Services Assistant assists the Hospital Storytelling Coordinator and Inclusive Services Supervising Librarian administratively, prepares and sometime conducts, hospital storytelling sessions. This position provides clerical, administrative and programming support at Inclusive Services/Flatlands Branch to Supervising Librarian and Hospital Storytelling Coordinator.

This is a part-time position. The salary for this position is $22/hour for an up to 15-hour workweek.

Responsibilities:

  • Assistingwith outreach at community andspecial eventsfor Inclusive Services

  • Answering office phones

  • Printing and organization of Inclusive Servicesmaterials

  • Assistingcoordinator with Hospital Storytelling events by gatheringappropriate supplies, corresponding with site liaisons, andassistingwith programs

  • Processing new giveaway books anddistributingmaterials via both internal and external mail

  • Helping coordinator log statistics andassistingin preparing reports

  • Assisting with Read and Play, Afterschool Stories and gardening programs.

Qualifications

  • Requires HS diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Good customer service and communication skills

  • Experience with people with disabilities. Experience with gardening, literature and arts programming for children a plus.
