Job description

NFI Massachusetts, Inc., a nonprofit human services organization, is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Part-Time Library Service Staff member to oversee library services within the Middleton Jail & House of Correction under the jurisdiction of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

This role is responsible for organizing, managing, and providing access to a wide range of informational and educational resources for justice-involved individuals. The Library Service Staff plays a key role in supporting learning, personal development, and legal access by maintaining an organized library system and assisting individuals in effectively utilizing available resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily library operations within the facility
  • Manage both physical and digital collections, including audits, maintenance, organization, and development
  • Select and acquire books, journals, and other materials to support program needs
  • Catalog and classify materials to ensure efficient retrieval
  • Receive, document, and manage legal discovery materials in accordance with ECSD protocols
  • Schedule and coordinate access for individuals reviewing legal materials
  • Assist individuals in locating educational, legal, and recreational reading materials
  • Provide guidance on use of library resources and databases
  • Manage check-in/check-out processes for library materials
  • Develop and facilitate programming (e.g., book clubs, educational or cultural activities)
  • Prepare and submit required reports
  • Ensure compliance with all NFI Massachusetts and ECSD policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Studies, Education, or related field required
  • Experience in library services required; experience working with justice-involved populations preferred
  • Familiarity with legal research and case law resources strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage systems, maintain accuracy, and work independently in a structured environment

Salary Range: $26.44 - $33.68 per hour | Status: Part-time (24 hours/week), evening hours required
