The purpose of this position is to provide high-quality customer service to library patrons. Responsibilities include organizing and shelving library materials in their proper locations; assisting patrons at public service desks, including Circulation, Reference, Youth, and Computer Lab; and responding to questions, requests, and general inquiries.
Additional duties may include processing library materials; helping patrons locate resources; providing basic assistance with computer and technology use; and planning, organizing, and/or implementing services and programs within the library and out in the community.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service to library patrons by staffing all public service desks, including greeting and assisting users with requests; directing patrons to appropriate library resources and areas; updating patron accounts; registering new users; checking out, renewing, and processing library materials; assisting with basic computer use; and collecting fines and fees;
  • Assists with developing, implementing, and conducting a variety of library-related educational programs and activities for adults, teens, and children, including story hour, library tours, and instructional classes in library areas assigned;
  • Maintains organization of library materials by sorting and shelving items in proper order; inspecting materials for damage; and routing damaged items for repair or further action;
  • Participates in cross-training and collaborates with staff across the library to support daily operations and ensure consistent, high-quality patron service;
  • Participates in staff meetings to discuss and solve problems, contribute ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities;
  • Assists with opening and closing duties;
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Qualifications
  • High School Graduation or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience working with the public
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Skill in the operation and use of hardware and peripherals, plus standard office software, which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products;

  • Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication;
  • Ability to exercise ethical decision-making, good judgment, and discretion in applying and interpreting library and City rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
