Other Conditions:
This position is created specifically to support the Ka'ohipohaku project, funded by the Mellon Foundation. To begin approximately July 2026, pending position clearance and/or availability of funds. The position is located at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and is renewable annually for the duration of the grant, contingent upon availability of funds, program/operational needs, satisfactory performance, and good academic standing.
This is an I I-month position, which means the position is on duty throughout the year except during periods of authorized leave.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Utilize web archiving software (e.g., Archive-It, Webrecorder, or similar tools) to capture social media and web content.
2. Maintain organized records of archived materials, including metadata and contextual information.
3. Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and applicable laws related to web and social media archiving.
4. Prepare periodic updates, presentations, and project reports. Assist with research and writing for the final project report.
5. Provide support for library and archival services as needed, including assisting with reference inquiries, guiding users in accessing resources, copy-cataloging, scanning,
transcribing, and delivering basic research instruction in alignment with the library's policies and procedures.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program at a University of Hawai'i campus at the
time of hire and throughout the appointment period, be in good academic standing, and
maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 or above.
2. Pursuing a graduate degree in Library & Information Science, Hawaiian Studies, or
Hawaiian Language.
3. Strong interest in learning or honing research and analytical skills, including research,
evaluation, survey, and protocol design.
4. Strong organizational, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Keen attention to
detail and ability to synthesize information.
5. Familiarity with or willingness to learn web archiving tools and technologies.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
faculty, staff, students, and community members.
7. Demonstrated experience in Google applications and related software.
8. Working knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Hawaiian Studies, Ethnic Studies, or Political Science.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture and history.
3. Experience with community consultation, oral history, or participatory research methods in Hawai?i.
4. Successful completion of LIS 655: Digital Archives, or demonstrated knowledge of digital preservation.
5. Technical experience with web archiving software, digital preservation tools, and/or metadata creation.
