Position Summary
Performs a variety of circulation tasks related to the operation of the Library on a flexible work schedule including days, nights and weekends for up to 18 hours a week. Must be a self-motivated individual who is computer literate and able to multi-task in an occasionally hectic environment.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties that the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Works at the circulation desk.
  • Circulates and renews library materials. Empties book drop.
  • Registers patrons and collects fines and fees.
  • Assists with deliveries and interlibrary loan transactions.
  • Refers informational questions as well as questions on the use of library materials and equipment to reference librarians.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries about library programs and services.
  • Shelves library materials
  • Mends and processes library materials.
  • Assists reference librarian in closing the library.
  • Performs other library tasks as assigned.
  • Knowledge of basic library materials, policies and procedures as found in the library personnel manual and the Eastpointe Memorial Library employee manual.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Qualifications include the following:
  • Basic knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Proficient in using a computer and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Knowledge of Polaris Integrated Library System (preferred by not required).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously; ability and desire to serve the public of all ages.
  • Physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to stand and walk for an entire work shift.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with employees and to work as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and push a loaded book truck weighing 120 pounds.
  • Performs other duties as required.
