Position Summary
The Dual Enrollment Lab Assistant provides instructional and laboratory support for Trenholm State Community College dual enrollment courses offered at designated instructional locations. The Lab Assistant works under the direction of the assigned faculty member and assists students with laboratory activities, computer-based assignments, coursework, and other instructional activities as appropriate.
The Lab Assistant supports the instructor but does not independently teach the course or assume responsibility for instruction assigned to the faculty member.
Salary Schedule: L (Local)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Report to and work under the direction of the assigned Trenholm State faculty member.
  2. Assist students during scheduled laboratory, computer, and coursework activities.
  3. Provide one-on-one and small-group academic assistance to students within the assigned subject area.
  4. Serve as a resource to students by answering appropriate subject-matter questions and referring instructional matters to the faculty member when necessary.
  5. Assist the faculty member during laboratory and/or class meetings as assigned.
  6. Monitor students during laboratory or computer-based instructional activities when the faculty member is not physically present, as authorized by the College.
  7. Assist with the setup, organization, inventory, storage, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
  8. Maintain an orderly, professional, and safe laboratory and/or classroom environment.
  9. Monitor student sign-in procedures and maintain attendance or participation records as directed.
  10. Check College email regularly and communicate appropriately with the assigned faculty member and students.
  11. Promptly report student concerns, equipment problems, safety issues, or other instructional concerns to the faculty supervisor.
  12. Follow all Trenholm State Community College safety and security procedures.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of student, departmental, and College information in accordance with FERPA and College policies.
  14. Interact with students, faculty, staff, secondary school partners, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  15. Maintain assigned work hours and be dependable and punctual at the designated instructional location.
  16. Represent Trenholm State Community College in a positive and professional manner.
  17. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the faculty supervisor, Dean, or appropriate College administrator.

Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge or experience in the subject area in which the Lab Assistant will be assigned.
  3. Ability to provide appropriate academic and laboratory support to dual enrollment students.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Previous classroom, laboratory, tutoring, or instructional support experience.
  3. Previous experience working with high school or college students.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  1. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  2. Ability to assist students with understanding course-related concepts and assignments within the scope of the position.
  3. Knowledge of the subject area associated with the assigned laboratory or course.
