Job description

Join Wasatch Behavioral Health as a Part-Time Lab Technician at our Substance Use Division Lab in Orem, Utah! In this important behind-the-scenes role, you'll support our clinical teams by helping ensure accurate, timely, and reliable substance use disorder (SUD) testing for clients working toward their individualized recovery goals. This position offers a competitive wage of $17.50–$22.17/hour and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the quality of care provided to clients. You'll be responsible for specimen collection and processing, maintaining detailed laboratory records, performing quality control procedures, and ensuring compliance with confidentiality, safety, and regulatory standards. Schedule: Sunday-Saturday (Days are Varied), 7:45 AM-6:15 PM (Hours are Varied)

What You'll Do as a Lab Technician

  • Collect, label, process, and prepare specimens for substance use disorder testing.
  • Perform drug screening and quality control procedures while maintaining accurate laboratory records.
  • Maintain chain-of-custody documentation and enter testing information and results into electronic systems.
  • Communicate with clinical and program staff regarding specimen collection and testing.
  • Prepare specimens for shipment to reference laboratories when needed.
  • Monitor supplies, assist with equipment maintenance, and help keep the laboratory clean, organized, and safe.
  • Protect client confidentiality and follow all agency, regulatory, infection control, and safety requirements.
  • Assist with laboratory documentation, administrative tasks, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with the clinical team to support accurate and timely testing that contributes to clients' individualized recovery plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent
  • Ability to follow detailed lab procedures and maintain strict chain-of-custody standards
  • Comfortable observing clients during specimen collection
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and safety practices
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test data according to regulatory guidelines
  • Spanish speakers may qualify for a wage increase
