General Description:
This position reports to the Director of Critical Care Services, with operational oversight provided by the Mission Control Manager. The Rapid Response EMT or Paramedic provides immediate, high-quality emergency medical care within the hospital setting as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT). This role focuses on early intervention and proactive rounding for deteriorating patients, supporting CODE responses, and assisting in critical care stabilization throughout the inpatient units and emergency department. The position works in close partnership with a Rapid Response Nurse to deliver coordinated, team-based care. During non-response periods, this role supports clinical operations through collection of medication histories, laboratory specimen collection, and other patient care tasks, The ideal candidate excels in fast-paced clinical environment, demonstrates strong critical thinking skills, and collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary hospital teams including the RRT Nurse. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Response to all inpatient emergencies, including Rapid Response activation and CODE BLUE, CODE STROKE, STEMI & SEPSIS events alongside Rapid Response Nurse (RRT).
  • Collaborate closely with the Rapid Response Nurse and providers to assess, treat, and stabilize deteriorating patients.
  • Perform focused patient assessment and assist with clinical decision-making during acute events.
  • Provide basic or advance life support (BLS/ALS) interventions.
  • Assist with cardiac monitoring, US guided IV/IO access, involvement in quality improvement and code reviews.
  • Support patient stabilization for transfer to higher levels of care (e.g., ICU, PCU)
  • Communicate effectively with bedside staff, physicians, and ancillary departments during emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Perform medication histories by reviewing patient home medication histories, calling pharmacies and other attempts to get a complete history and identifying discrepancies for provider review.
  • Conduct venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens during proactive rounds or as assigned in the emergency department.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
Requirements:
Formal Education:
  • Vocational or other technical school, certification, training, or apprenticeship required beyond high school.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year experience participating in or supporting Rapid Response Teams (RRT), Code Blue, or other inpatient emergency activations required.
  • 23 years of clinical experience in a high-acuity healthcare environment.
  • Prior hospital-based experience strongly preferred, including roles in:
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or step-down units
  • Inpatient technician, paramedic, or clinical support roles
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • EMT or Paramedic Florida State Certification and/or National Registry required.
  • EMTs: BLS certification through The American Heart Association required.
  • Paramedics: BLS, ACLS and PALS certification through The American Heart Association required for Paramedics.
