Job description

SDS is looking for a Part-Time JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) Instructor and/or Evaluator supporting the Naval Special Warfare JTAC Program.


As a JTAC Instructor/Evaluator, you will play a critical role in training military personnel to become proficient in the coordination of close air support, artillery and naval gun fire. You will have the unique opportunity to train and mentor the most elite and capable special operations forces (SOF) personnel in the world. You will be responsible for delivering advanced JTAC training that aligns with the specialized requirements of SOCOM units.


NSW GROUP 2 JTAC INSTRUCTOR/EVALUATOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Instruct and mentor NSW personnel in close air support, artillery coordination, and tactical decision-making.
  • Provide JTAC instruction in JFS-ESC Simulator, classroom lectures, practical exercises, and field instruction to JTAC members.
  • Conduct practice and graded currency controls for certified JTACs as directed by NSWC and conduct realistic scenario-based training exercises to prepare SOF JTACs for real-world missions.
  • Proficiency in the use of JTAC equipment and software.
  • Provide expert guidance on JTAC procedures, equipment, and communication systems.
  • Continuously assess and refine training programs to meet evolving operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with SOF subject matter experts to integrate the latest tactics, techniques, and technologies.


NSW JTAC INSTRUCTOR/EVALUATOR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Secret Security Clearance
  • Previous experience as a JTAC-Instructor and/or Evaluator within the special operations community is highly desirable, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified JTAC-I; be a JTAC-E or eligible for upgrade.
  • JTAC deployed experience within the last seven (7) years or have been executing administrative JTAC-I Training duties at a JFS-ESC accredited course of instruction or operational unit.
  • JTAC/JTAC-I certification must be current or within the last two (2) years.
  • Provide proof of previously certified and qualified SOF JTAC-Instructors or Evaluators (SOF JTAC-I or E) qualifications or provide JTAC Evaluation Folder with the last 24-months of CAS qualifications.
  • Qualifications shall include but are not limited to:
    • USSOCOM IMT 43 SOF JTAC Certification of Evaluation
    • AF Form 8 Certificate of Aircrew Qualification
    • AF IMT 3827 Terminal Attack Control Evaluation and Certification
    • Other service equivalent JTAC evaluation forms
    • Familiarity with the USSOCOM M 350-5 and Joint Pub 3-09.3
    • Subject matter expert (SME) in 3-09.3 Joint Tactics Techniques and Procedures for Close Air Support and the J-Fire Multi-Service Tactics, Techniques and Procedures for the Joint Application of Firepower.
    • Possess extensive familiarity with JTAC TTPs in post-9/11 CAS employment during counterinsurgency (COIN) and counter violent extremist organization (CVEO) combat operations.
    • Possess familiarity with JTAC operations and TTPs applicable to Major Combat Operations and the Strategic Competition context, to include equipment required for tactical communications in denied environments.
