About the role
As Manager Commercial Analysis, you will be the key point of contact for delivering all necessary revenue analysis to support major investment and commercial decisions across wind, solar PV, battery storage, and flexible generation technologies, directly contributing to RWE Clean Energy's growth targets.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with a team of highly skilled experts in power markets and complex modeling with diverse backgrounds such as engineering, consulting, academia, and IPPs.
It also provides the chance to collaborate with international teams across the broader RWE organization, offering valuable insights into the rapidly evolving global energy landscape and underscoring the impact and strategic importance of your role.
Responsibilities
  • Drive Impactful Decisions: Influence major investment, offtake, auction, and M&A decisions within RWE U.S., with a focus on the Western U.S. power markets. Your goal is to maximize commercial value for individual projects and the broader portfolio, guiding the business toward commercially optimized and viable outcomes.
  • Shape Market Beliefs: Develop and refine key market beliefs related to the Western U.S. power markets, including trends in energy transition, renewable and battery deployment, flexible generation, demand response, tax credits, regulatory constraints, and state and federal emissions targets.
  • Lead Market and Asset Valuation: Conduct and oversee analyses of market fundamentals, risks, and valuations for renewable and flexible generation assets using both internal and external models. Translate these insights into commercial strategies for the RWE Clean Energy portfolio or specific assets.
  • Optimize Offtake and Auction Strategy: Lead the development of profit-maximizing offtake and auction strategies, aligning with RWE's commercial frameworks and tailored for various RFPs and market auctions.
  • Deliver Market Insights: Provide robust short- and long-term market analyses to assess the impact of energy market dynamics-such as commodity price movements or regulatory changes-on investment decisions, and recommend appropriate commercial responses.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with internal stakeholders including Strategy, Regulation, Valuation, Development, Trading, Risk Controlling, and Engineering, as well as with external consultants. Take ownership in steering these engagements to ensure commercially sound outcomes

Your powerful skills
  • Graduate degrees (Masters or PhD) in an quantitative subject, such as Engineering, (Energy-) Economics, Sciences, Statistics, or Mathematics
  • At least 5 years experience in commercialization of on-/offshore wind, solar PV, battery, and/or hydrogen projects, especially for California and WECC market
  • Detailed understanding on U.S. power & commodity market principles, fundamental drivers and risks of energy revenues with respect to Renewable / Battery / Flex Generation development perspectives
  • Experience in fundamental modeling of power markets, renewable / battery project valuations, and / or programming skills (e.g. Python, R, VBA)
  • High affinity for quantitative and complex modeling, and ability to draw the key insight from complex concepts and make relevant commercial decisions
