Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated expertise in home inspection and preparing proper reports.Prior teaching or training experience preferred.Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts in practical terms.
Supervision: SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Workforce Continuing Education-Engineering & Advanced Technology, takes direction from department administration. SUPERVISION GIVEN: May give directions to part-time lab staff as assigned.
Job Function
The Adjunct Instructor for Home Inspection provides high-quality instruction to students preparing for careers in residential property inspection. This role involves teaching foundational and advanced concepts aligned with state standards, industry best practices, and professional ethics. The instructor will create an engaging learning environment that supports student success through hands-on activities, real-world examples, and practical skill development.
Job Responsibilities
Deliver course instruction in accordance with learning objectives and requirements for home inspector training.
• Teach topics such as building systems, structural components, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, exterior/interior inspections, safety protocols, report writing/electronic reports, and relevant state laws.
• Provide demonstrations, field-based learning opportunities, and scenario-based exercises to
reinforce practical skills.
• Assess student performance through assignments, quizzes, exams, and inspection-style reports.
• Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and program development activities as needed.
Education
Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, with significant industry experience or a skilled trades background with substantial, relevant hands-on experience in residential construction, inspection, or building systems.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in home inspection including: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and mechanical systems. Membership in ASHI, InterNACHI, or NAHI (preferred).
