They may assist with selecting color schemes, furniture, lighting, and other decorative elements to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of homes or businesses. Part time interior designers often work flexible schedules, making this role ideal for those seeking work-life balance or additional income. Their duties may include client consultations, creating design plans, sourcing materials, and overseeing project installations within limited hours each week.

How does working as a part-time interior designer typically impact collaboration with clients and project teams?

Part-time interior designers often work with flexible schedules, which can influence how and when they collaborate with clients and other team members. Clear communication and effective time management are essential, as you may need to coordinate meetings or site visits around your limited availability. Many firms support remote collaboration tools, making it easier to contribute to design discussions and share updates even when not on-site. Staying organized and proactive about deadlines ensures smooth project progress and helps maintain strong professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time interior designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part-Time Interior Designer, you generally need a background in interior design or a related field, with skills in spatial planning, color theory, and design principles. Charlotte, NC | Part-Time | Field-Based
Construction Theory is a Charlotte-based residential general contracting firm specializing in renovations, historic district projects, and design-forward construction. We're looking for a personable, self-motivated individual to get out in the Charlotte market and introduce us to the architects, interior designers, and realtors who should know we exist.
What You'll Do:
  • Visit architecture firms, interior design studios, and real estate offices to introduce Construction Theory and build lasting referral relationships.
  • Attend relevant industry events, open houses, and networking functions on behalf of the company.
  • Follow up consistently with new contacts via email, phone, and social media to stay top of mind.
  • Dedicate one day per week in-office to social media content, contact management, and follow-up communications.
  • Report back on conversations, leads, and opportunities from the field.
  • Represent the Construction Theory brand with professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for the work we do.

  • Some familiarity with the design, architecture, or real estate world in Charlotte (existing relationships are a big plus).
  • Reliable, organized, and good at follow-through — relationship building only works with consistency.
  • Comfortable with Instagram and LinkedIn for light content and engagement.
  • A good eye and genuine appreciation for well-executed renovation work.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

The Role:
  • 15–25 hours per week across 3 days.
  • 2 days per week in the field visiting firms and attending events.
  • 1 day per week in-office handling social media and follow-ups.
  • $20-$25 per hour plus performance bonuses for every project closed from your networking efforts.
