Essential Job Duties
Join our dedicated Building Maintenance and Operations team as a Facilities Maintenance Technician and play a vital role in keeping our campus systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably. In this position, you'll use your technical expertise to maintain, repair, and install a wide range of building systems, including HVACR, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver with strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and service excellence.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but not limited to:
  • Maintain, repair, and install HVACR systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, pressure-reducing stations, air compressors, and water softeners
  • Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidelines on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
  • Conduct electrical work up to 600 VAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical panels, breakers, switchgear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, and lighting systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems, including temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators
  • Install and maintain plumbing systems, including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipes, valves, and fixtures for gas, water, and sanitation systems
  • Perform pipefitting and insulation work related to steam and water distribution systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices while performing all duties
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds to 90 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations

Other Responsibilities
  • Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks.
  • Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the trades areas of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with colleagues and campus partners

  • Valid driver's license required
  • NC driver's license within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
