PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Part-Time Third Teacher collaborates with a team of two experienced teachers to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program. This role supports a safe, nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. There is a focus on consistency in teaching daily routines and schedules. There may be Behavior Plans or IFSPs/IEPs written by professionals that must be implemented by this teacher, as well as the full-time co-teachers.

The Part-Time Third Teacher is assigned to a specific classroom in which a child with persistent unsafe behaviors or a moderate to severe disability is enrolled. The Third Teacher works 5½ hours per day for a period that may range from three (3) months up to one (1) year, depending on the ongoing needs of the child and program considerations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:

Works as part of a teaching team to:

1. Supports a warm, secure, affectionate, social-emotional classroom environment for young children, aligned with RCMA Positive Discipline guidance. (Note: Physical interaction, such as lifting, touching, holding, and comforting a child, is necessary.)

2. Supports the delivery of a high-quality early childhood education program and early intervention services by implementing the High Scope curriculum activities, daily routines, schedules, and Pyramid Model Framework.

3. Consistently uses classroom rules and procedures that establish and

maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive classroom and outside environment.

Actively contribute to building a sense of community among the children and

staff.

4. Implements the IFSP/IEP for the child with a disability or Behavior

Plan/Interventions for a child exhibiting persistent, unsafe behaviors.

5. Adheres to all RCMA funding guidelines and Department of Children and

Families (DCF) regulations.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job

successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element

satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the

general supervision of the Center Coordinator. The requirements listed below are

representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must

meet age, medical, moral character, and any other requirements as defined by

Florida Statutes.

After initial hire, the employee must complete mandatory child care training (DCF

45 hours) as specified in the DCF Training Addendum and in accordance with

Florida Statutes and funding source requirements to retain eligibility to be

employed in this position.

• Completion of the VPK Standard Training and Emergent Literacy for VPK

Instructors within 12 months of hire date.

• Begin the requirements of CDA, FCCPC (Birth - 5 years), or ECPC credentials

within 260 working days of hire.

• Within 5 days of accepting this position (or before if possible), view and

complete assignments in the NCQTL Beginning Teacher Series: “Social-

Emotional Support” AND “Guiding Children’s Behavior”. Document with HR

10 and certificates in the staff file.

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiarity with the community being served is preferred, including relevant

occupational or cultural experience, such as farmworker experience when

applicable.

• Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds,

with a focus on professionalism, collaboration, and mutual respect.

• Possess a current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

(CPR) and Pediatric First-Aid.
