GENERAL FUNCTION
The Pilates Reformer Instructor is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and inclusive Reformer-based Pilates classes that support the YMCA's mission to strengthen community through healthy living. Instructors create welcoming, high-quality experiences of participants of varied abilities while upholding the Stephens Family YMCA mission and values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lead Pilates Reformer classes that are safe, engaging, and aligned with YMCA standards and program goals
  • Provide clear instruction, appropriate progressions/regressions, and visual and verbal cueing as appropriate
  • Ensure proper equipment setup, use, and care before, and cleanup after classes
  • Foster and inclusive, encouraging environment where all participants feel welcome, supported, and successful
  • Monitor participant safety, provide modifications, and respond appropriately to injuries or concerns
  • Arrive on time, prepared, and maintain consistent class coverage
  • Build positive relationships with members and staff, supporting member retention and engagement
  • Adhere to YMCA policies, procedures, and risk management standards
  • Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and professional development as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Pilates Reformer certification from a nationally recognized program (e.g. Balanced Body or equivalent)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (willingness to complete through the YMCA within the first 3 months of employment)
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, movement principles, and safe exercise practices
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and varying fitness levels
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for community wellness and alignment with the YMCA mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Comprehensive Pilates certification (Mat + Apparatus)
  • Experience teaching small-group or private Reformer sessions
  • Previous experience in a YMCA or community-based fitness environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to setup Reformers before class, and put them away after class
  • Ability to demonstrate Pilates exercises and movement patterns
  • Ability to lift, move, and adjust Reformer equipment
  • Ability to stand, bend kneel, and move throughout the class duration

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE
  • Classes will be offered early mornings, mornings, midday, evenings, and/or weekends
