Job Summary
We are seeking a professional and dependable Part Time Driver to join our team in Waterbury, CT. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students to and from schools, extracurricular activities, and designated locations. The ideal candidate is a safety-conscious professional with a clean driving record who can maintain a calm, positive environment for students while adhering to strict schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Safe Transportation: Operate a school van or passenger vehicle in accordance with all state laws and safety standards.
Student Supervision: Supervise students during boarding, transport, and off-loading; maintain discipline and communicate behavioral updates to administrators and caregivers.
Route Management: Follow assigned routes and schedules strictly, prioritizing safety and punctuality.
Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure mechanical safety; maintain a clean and fueled vehicle and report any maintenance needs immediately.
Safety Compliance: Ensure all emergency equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.) is in proper working order and participate in required training programs.
Specialized Care: Adapt to the communicative, physical, and emotional needs of students with diverse backgrounds or requirements.
Qualifications
  • Licensing & Endorsements: Must possess a valid Driverโ€™s License. While a Connecticut V or F endorsement is required for this role, we will provide training and assistance to help qualified candidates obtain these endorsements.
  • Background & Credentialing: Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and Department of Children and Families (DCF) credentialing.
  • Driving Record: A clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Experience: 5+ years of driving experience is preferred, along with a strong knowledge of Waterbury geography and Connecticut roadways.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using smartphones and GPS navigation tools for route optimization.
  • Communication & Temperament: Strong verbal communication skills; ability to remain calm and professional while supervising students and navigating traffic.
  • Availability: Must be dependable with the ability to work early morning shifts.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
