Job description

The Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department during assigned shifts. The RN Supervisor provides clinical leadership, ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, supervises nursing staff, promotes regulatory compliance, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support positive resident outcomes while maintaining compliance with New York State and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Supervise and direct the activities of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants during assigned shifts.

  • Ensure that residents receive safe, compassionate, and individualized nursing care.

  • Conduct routine rounds to assess resident conditions and verify the quality of care provided.

  • Assess residents experiencing changes in condition and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.

  • Notify physicians, nurse practitioners, and responsible parties of significant changes in resident status.

  • Administer medications and treatments as needed in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.

  • Review physician orders for accuracy and ensure timely implementation.

  • Respond to emergencies, medical incidents, falls, behavioral events, and resident concerns.

  • Provide clinical guidance, coaching, and support to nursing staff.

  • Monitor staffing levels and make assignments based on resident acuity and staff competency.

  • Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes.

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete nursing documentation within the electronic medical record.

  • Promote infection prevention and control practices throughout the facility.

  • Monitor compliance with resident rights, abuse prevention, HIPAA, and safety standards.

  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

  • Investigate incidents and complete required reports.

  • Collaborate with rehabilitation, dietary, social services, housekeeping, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members.

  • Assist with survey readiness and regulatory compliance activities.

  • Participate in staff education, competency validation, and performance improvement.

  • Serve as the nursing administrative representative during assigned shifts.

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State in good standing.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, or long-term care setting.
  • Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CMS regulations, New York State Department of Health requirements, infection prevention, and quality improvement practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer applications
