What is a part time infection control?

Part time infection control jobs involve monitoring and implementing measures to prevent the spread of infections within healthcare settings or other organizations, on a part-time schedule. These roles typically include tasks such as training staff on hygiene protocols, auditing cleaning practices, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Part time positions allow flexibility in hours, making them suitable for those seeking work-life balance or additional income. Infection control professionals may work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or public health departments, helping to safeguard patients and staff from infectious diseases.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a part time infection control specialist?

To thrive as a Part Time Infection Control Specialist, you need a strong background in microbiology, epidemiology, and infection prevention policies, typically supported by a degree in nursing, public health, or a related field, along with relevant certification such as CIC (Certification in Infection Control). Familiarity with surveillance software, data analysis tools, and regulatory compliance systems like those from the CDC or OSHA is crucial. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively educate staff and respond to potential outbreaks. These competencies are vital for minimizing infection risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe healthcare environment.

What are common challenges in a part time infection control role and how can they be managed?

One common challenge in a part-time infection control position is staying updated with the latest protocols and ensuring consistent communication with the full-time infection control team. Because hours are limited, prioritizing tasks such as auditing procedures, training staff, and addressing urgent infection risks is essential. Effective time management, strong documentation, and proactive communication are key to ensuring that infection prevention measures are maintained even when not on-site full-time. Collaborating closely with colleagues and utilizing digital tools for updates and reporting can help bridge any gaps.

Job description

About Us

Toothworks is a busy, patient-focused dental clinic network committed to delivering exceptional care across our Kitchener locations. As part of the Toothworks (Dentalcorp) network, we're growing our clinical team and looking for dedicated Dental Assistants to join us at our Fairview Park and Boardwalk locations.

The Role

As a Dental Assistant, you'll work directly alongside our dental team to deliver a smooth, comfortable experience for every patient. You'll be organized, hands-on, and ready to support wherever needed — from preparing operatories to assisting chairside during procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists during a variety of dental procedures.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and operatories in accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as directed.
  • Record patient information and treatment notes accurately in Abeldent.
  • Educate patients on post-treatment care and oral hygiene instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked clinical environment.
  • Support the team with smooth patient flow and day-to-day clinic operations.

Schedule

This is a rotating position with shifts spanning late morning through evening on weekdays and daytime hours on weekends. Both full-time and part-time schedules are available, with shifts distributed across the week including weekends. Exact days will be confirmed at the time of offer based on availability and clinic needs.

Candidates must be available for evening shifts and at least one weekend day.

What We're Looking For

  • Completion of a dental assisting program or equivalent clinical experience.
  • NDAEB certified or currently enrolled in the NDAEB certification exam (mandatory).
  • Experience with Abeldent or any dental practice management software is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and infection control practices.
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Warm, professional, and patient-focused with a team-first attitude.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to bring your best to every shift.

How to Apply

If you're a motivated Dental Assistant looking for a role with scheduling flexibility and a supportive team environment, we'd love to hear from you. Please indicate in your application which location you are applying for, or if you are open to both. Submit your resume and a brief cover letter through Indeed.

Toothworks is committed to an inclusive and welcoming workplace and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
