POSITION SUMMARY
An employee in this position opens and closes park facilities for Parks and Recreation of Harnett County. Duties include: keeping areas, equipment, and supplies organized, neat, and clean; cleaning park buildings; picking up trash; and assisting with special park events.
This position is for the Patriots Park located at 721 Ponderosa Road Cameron, NC.
Hiring Hourly Pay Rate is $10.8315
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
  • Unlocks and locks gates at the designated times for the assigned park.
  • Assists in keeping assigned areas, equipment, and supplies organized;
  • Cleans and inspects restrooms, parking lots, picnic shelters, and adjoining sidewalks and trail heads.
  • Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle to travel as needed.
  • Inspects park areas; reports maintenance issues or repairs to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains an inspection log.
  • Performs periodic inventories of equipment and supplies; requests needed supplies to maintain inventory.
  • Picks up trash.
  • Disinfects playgrounds and swings.
  • Assists with special events at the park facilities.
  • Reports any concerns or issues to supervisor.
  • Performs some clerical or manual tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No experience required.
  • Possession of a valid NC driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of park opening and closing times.
  • Knowledge of park rules.
  • Knowledge of related County policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in general maintenance work.
  • Skill in communicating verbally to park visitors and supervisor.
  • Skill in communicating with tact and courteous with the public.
  • Ability to report to work on time and notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to keep things neat, organized, and clean.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle inquiries and problems efficiently.
  • Ability to express ideas orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate timesheets and submit them on time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening work.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform light work frequently exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, crouching, feeling, grasping, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, reaching, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to inspect facilities and operate job-related equipment and tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee works primarily outside and subject to various weather elements and various chemicals needed in disinfecting or cleaning. Requires working flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Temporary or Part-Time Employees are not eligible to receive benefits .
